Pretoria - SuperSport United missed an opportunity to move into fourth spot in the standings when they were held to a goalless draw by Maritzburg United in their PSL clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium, in Atteridgeville, on Tuesday evening.
A dull first half was followed by a livelier second, but neither side were able to put their opponents under enough pressure, leaving the scores unchanged at the final whistle
In the only real action of an uninspired first half, five minutes before the break, Maritzburg goalkeeper Shuaib Walters handled the ball outside his area, but Sameegh Doutie failed to capitalise on the mistake, sending his free-kick high and wide of his teammates in the area.

Two minutes later, the visitors replied through Cuthbert Malajila, who received a long ball over the SuperSport defence, but the Zimbabwean drilled his attempt into the side-netting on its way part goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
With little in the line of chances during the first half, Matsatsantsa had to wait until the hour mark for their first sniff in the second period, after Doutie played a low ball across the face of goal which found Bradley Grobler, but the attacker nudged a tame effort straight at Walters, who made a simple stop in goal.
Doutie made a darting run in the dying seconds, but sent his effort wide of the target in a late flourish, before second-half replacement Franklin Cale's long-range shot sailed over the bar.
SuperSport, who stretched their unbeaten run to eight straight league games, remained fifth in the table - one point behind Wits - though they held a game in hand over most other teams, due to their CAF Confederation Cup commitments.
The Tshwane outfit retained their one-point advantage over sixth-placed Maritzburg.
