SuperSport, Chiefs set for 50th PSL showdown

Cape Town - SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs will renew their rivalry in the Absa Premiership when they meet at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

SuperSport recorded their second draw in succession when they were held 0-0 by Jomo Cosmos on August 26.

The Tshwane side has picked up four points from their two home matches this season.

Matsatsantsa are placed sixth on the Absa Premiership log with five points from three matches.

Chiefs recorded their second draw of the season when they were held 1-1 at Polokwane City on August 25.

The Soweto giants have played to two draws in their two away matches so far this season.

The Amakhosi are placed fourth on the Absa Premiership log with five points from three matches.

In head-to-head stats, SuperSport and Chiefs have met in 49 league matches since 1990.

Matsatsantsa have 19 wins compared to 17 for Amakhosi, while 13 matches have been drawn.

SuperSport have won eight of their 24 home matches against Chiefs, suffering seven defeats in the process.

Last season Amakhosi won their home match 2-0 in Soweto, but Matsatsantsa replied in kind with a 2-0 victory in their home match.

The teams have not played to a goalless draw in the league since the first half of the 2007/08 season.

Kick-off is at 18:00 on Saturday, September 12.
