Sundowns seek Ajax victory

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns will look to return to winning form in the Absa Premiership when they host Ajax Cape Town at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Sundowns suffered a second successive defeat when they were beaten 2-1 at Golden Arrows on September 12.

The Tshwane side beat Bidvest Wits 4-2 in the only home match they have played so far this season.

The Brazilians are placed 10th on the Absa Premiership log with four points from as many matches.

Ajax recorded a third successive league win when they beat Polokwane City 2-1 at home on September 12.

The Cape Town side’s only previous away match this season was a 2-1 loss at Bidvest Wits on the opening weekend.

The Urban Warriors are placed first on the Absa Premiership log with nine points from four matches.

In head-to-head stats, Sundowns and Ajax have met in 32 league matches since 1999/2000.

The Brazilians have claimed 12 wins compared to 10 for the Urban Warriors, while 10 matches have ended in draws.

Sundowns have won seven of their 16 home matches against Ajax, suffering four defeats in the process.

Last season the Urban Warriors won 1-0 at home, but the Brazilians claimed a 2-1 victory in the return leg in Tshwane.

The teams have played to just one goalless draw in their last 27 league encounters.

Kick-off is at 19:30 on Wednesday, September 23.
