Sundowns sack Neeskens

2012-12-02 17:32

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns have axed head coach Johan Neeskens following a string of poor results.

The Brazilians, second from bottom in the Premiership, lost 1-0 against Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout final in Durban on Saturday night - their second cup final defeat in seven months.

Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuswa said on Sunday the club had already identified a replacement.

“I can confirm that coach Neskeens and the club have reached an amicable agreement to part ways," Thuswa said.

"The club president, Patrice Motsepe, praised him for standing by the club even when times where tough.”

I think wat count the most in ANY GAME, is the concetration of the player(s). yes Sundowns did not score last night but their performance was so nice.

    The curse remains.......................

      Stephen Loate - 2012-12-02 23:36

I think that while taking action to sack the coach and taking action to rescue downs, the players are not good enough to get the necessary points, downs need to re look at their player, i think they need to clean up these lazy and non talented players! a coach can only do his bit but the last straw remains with the players!! cant say im not happy about the late dismissal, it has given the 2 soweto giant the lead and the gap the need!

NEESKENS MIGHT HAVE BEEN A GREAT PLAYER AND ASSISTANT FOR BARCA, BUT COMPARING APPLES WITH APPLES, HE IS THE WORST IN DOWNS HISTORY.SINCE HIS ARRIVAL THE TEAM COULD NOT PLAY EFFECTIVELY IN THE SECOND INNING. TO PITSO : WELCOME HOME!

  • mlungisisimanaye.zulu - 2012-12-02 19:37

Ps soccer-lovers let's remember that politics, race

  • Kgotsoshalom - 2012-12-02 19:48

Coach Neeskens good luck with your future in football. I know you mean't well, but things didn't workout.

  • jo.vankatwijk - 2012-12-02 19:50

I'm sure Johan doesn't mind and I'm also sure he's looking forward to spending a white Christmas back home.

  • mmoledis - 2012-12-02 19:50

Since I know Downs,it has never be in a position they are in today so that coach cost them a lot and Mr Motsepe was not rush to fire him thinking he can turn the tables but so far he had done nothing for the team, he has just put them on the corner in a dangerous place where if too Mosimane can not get a plan, then Downs can find themselves in a bad position when the league re opens for the second half and put pressure on Mosimane they can also miss on top eight if things can not change fast for their favour. Well done Mosimane and hope you will do the best to remove Downs where it is now to a better position before second round and Motse did well by appointing an African coach this shows clearly that we have people in Africa who are best than Western coaches who claims lot of money when hired but do no job which is best than locals.
