'Downs interested in Mashamaite

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has not hidden his desire to bring former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite to Chloorkop.

Mosimane told Sport24 he knows Mashamaite is a good defender who can replace the departed Alje Schut, but he is not sure if he is available.

"Is Tefu free?” Mosimane queried.

"'Jazzman' hasn't told us that he is free. If he can tell us that he is free then we can consider him.

"There is no doubt he is a great defender, he would add value to the team but we can't say much at the moment because we don't know whether he is free or not.

"But once he is available and we know about it then we can go for him."

Tefu Mashamaite remains out of contract after being released by Kaizer Chiefs on July 1.

The former Chiefs captain spent some time on trial with MLS side New York City FC but failed to land a deal with the new US franchise.
