Sundowns calls Sumaila back

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns have recalled Rashid Sumaila from Kumasi Asante Kotoko, just six months into his one-year loan deal with the Ghanaian club.

The 23-year-old former Black Stars player confirmed to Football411 that he has been forced to abruptly end his spell at Kotoko, with the Brazilians seemingly looking to strengthen their options ahead of the 2015 CAF Champions League.

"I have been called back to help my team in South Africa and that is it, the details as to why I am going back is very scanty and I cannot share it," said Sumaila.

"I am still their player so if they have called me to come and help I have to oblige, because I have a running contract with them that will expire in some months' time.

"I have to respect their decision and make sure I don't go contrary to the rules, it's sad that I am leaving Kotoko, but that is how is going to be for now.

"Sundowns is still a family so when the call came I couldn't think twice, but I know Kotoko won't be happy with the outcome of this so I wish them all the best in the upcoming season and the Champions League as well."
