Stars set Abraw-Chiefs deal straight

Cape Town - Free State Stars have revealed striker Camaldine Abraw left the club as a free agent, and was not sold to Kaizer Chiefs for a reported R1.5m.

The Togo international penned a three-year deal with Amakhosi in June, only for Bloemfontein Celtic to claim the forward had first agreed terms with them.

That dispute is still to be settled by the PSL's Dispute Resolution Chamber next month, but Ea Lla Koto have now revealed that no money changed hands during Abraw's transfer, with his contract having expired and his one-year option being passed up.

"I remain mute on that matter. In as far as Free State Stars is concerned, everything was done above board. Whatever is happening between Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs, they must sort out their issues,” Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena told KickOff.

"But as far as Stars is concerned we've done everything above board. The player was never sold. His contract had come to an end and a clearance was issued [so that he could join Chiefs].

"You can't sell a player who is out of contract, what are you selling? The player was never sold. We just issued a clearance after Chiefs wrote to us."
