Stars down Swallows

Bethlehem - Free State Stars came from two goals down to beat Moroka Swallows 3-2 in their Premiership match at Goble Park Stadium on Saturday.

Second half goals by Moeketsi Sekola and a brace by Abdul Basit, gave Stars all three points against a struggling Swallows side that are without a win in three matches.

The Dube Birds were in control of the match going to the interval, sitting comfortable with a 2-0 lead, but threw away that lead to lose 3-2.

Goals by Vladimir Mandic and Felix Obada gave coach Swallows coach Zeca Marques a start he was hoping for in the first half, but his side collapsed in the second period as they were out-played by the spirited Stars outfit.

Marques made seven changes from a team which lost 2-0 to Chippa United in their last match at home. Marques brought in Greg Etafia, Lucky Baloyi, Ashraf Hendricks, Larry Cohen, Tsietsi Mahoa, Sandile Sibande and Siyabonga Nomvethe.

And the move paid off for the Dube Birds as they got their opening in the 22nd minute courtesy of a goal by Mandic with a right foot finish after he connected from Dikgang Mabalane's cross, before Obada added the other goal on the stroke of half time.

It was Swallows who doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time courtesy of a goal by Obada against the run of play to go to the interval with a healthy 2-0 lead.

Immediately after the restart, Sekola connected well from a Danny Venter cross to reduce the deficit.

Buoyed by the goal, Stars continued to search for an equaliser and leveled matters on the hour mark through Basit after he connected well from a Venter cross.

Basit completed his brace in the 73rd minute against the run of play to give Stars a 3-2 lead for the first time in the match and a victory.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
