Stars confirm Saintfiet sacking

Cape Town - Free State Stars have confirmed that they have parted ways with head coach Tom Saintfiet after a poor run of results.

The Free State club's general manager, Rantsi Mokoena, released the following statement on the club's website:

“Free State Stars F.C has mutually terminated its contract with coach Tom Saintfiet who joined the club in the 2014/2015 season.

“We have had a meeting with the coach and both parties agreed that after a string of poor results it would be best for both parties to part ways in an effort to try and remedy the current situation.

“Kinnah Phiri will be the interim coach until we make further announcements and the rest of the technical team and playing personnel remains the same.

“We wish Tom Saintfiet everything of the best in his future endeavours and we wish that things could have turned out differently but such is the nature of football.”

Saintfiet was relieved of his duties following his side's 5-2 loss at home against Polokwane City.

Free State Stars are 11th in the current PSL standings after 10 games.
