Squad depth important - Tinkler

Johannesburg - Eric Tinkler believes that Orlando Pirates’ fringe players are not worse than the regular starters for the Buccaneers.

Speaking to Pirates’ official website, the Sea Robbers assistant coach reveals that players must take their opportunities when given to them.

“We need to remember this is Orlando Pirates,” said the former Bafana Bafana midfielder.

“We have a good squad, we have a squad with a lot of depth and the coach will give players opportunities to show themselves. Those players, in my opinion are not worse than the players who have been playing in the starting eleven before as we have been seeing.

“Kermit has been the main striker and Majoro is coming in and scoring goals. You expect that in a squad. But you will see certain faces that you have not seen in previous games.”

Pirates are in action on Sunday, September 7 in the Ke Yona Challenge and Tinkler entails that every game despite the significance is important.

“We need to remain with a winning mentality; we need to remain positive; we need to keep the winning momentum.

“It is vitally important to win this game as I said before, the players have been working hard at training and come the weekend they will be fired up to win this game.

“What is important for our players is that they realise that there are thousands of kids looking for this opportunity; these kids are huge fans of Orlando Pirates and every single kid would like to be in their position.

“Our players will have to work even harder than those kids, so that they maintain their spot at Orlando Pirates.”
