Cape Town - According to reports, former football star John “Shoes” Moshoeu is fighting for his life in a Johannesburg Hospital.

The Sunday Sun reports that John “Shoes” Moshoeu that the former Bafana Bafana is gravely ill.

According to reports, Moshoeu has been in hospital for three weeks but the nature of his illness is yet to be confirmed.

“For the past few months he’s been going from one private hospital to another – until his medical aid got exhausted." the former soccer star's mother, Reene Mosheu, told the newspaper.

“He was brought into this hospital by Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s husband.

“He was supposed to be taken to theatre for an operation.

“But that hasn’t happened yet. My son hasn’t eaten anything in days,” Reena added.

In May 2014, Moshoeu hung up his boots after spending several seasons with third-tier side Alexandre United.

Moshoeu, a Kaizer Chiefs star from 2003 until 2006, also shone in the Turkish league for Fenerbahce and Bursaspor from 1997 until his return to South Africa in 2003.

"Shoes" was capped 73 times for South Africa and scored eight times.
