The centre back suffered a knee injury at home recently after walking into a glass door, but has, according to the Soccer Laduma website, been declared fit to play.
A strength deficit in his quad, however, means that his team is reluctant to risk him in this weekend’s Telkom Knockout semi-final with Platinum Stars.
“I walked into a glass door, so I had a nasty cut on my knee that needed stitches. After recovery we did a few tests and one showed that I have a strength deficit of around 40% between my left quad and my right quad, so I can play, but it’d be a big risk of getting injured again if I do take the chance,” Schut said.
“I don’t think there’s a need for me to play, as the other guys are doing very well, but if the coach needs me then I’m willing to take that risk because it’s a very important match.
“I think I’ll need around another week or 10 days to get back to full match fitness.”
Masandawana travel to league leaders, Chiefs, on Nov. 22, giving the 33-year-old skipper enough time to make a full recovery.
