Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns captain Alje Schut admits Saturday's 2-0 Nedbank Cup victory over Thanda Royal Zulu was exactly the start the team had been hoping for.

The Brazilians had to wait until the second half at Loftus Versfeld to open the scoring as skipper Schut headed home past their National First Division opponents, before Teko Modise wrapped up the result from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time.

And, speaking after the last-32 encounter, Dutch defender Schut told Soccer Laduma: "As I said before, I would want to win the Nedbank Cup and this is the start we wanted as a team.

"It's a good result for everyone at the team. Thanda were a good opposition and they gave us a good game.

"We just have to continue from here and make sure we continue having these good results. But it was good to win the first game."
