Cape Town - Reports suggest Chippa United are negotiating with Mamelodi Sundowns about signing Thamsanqa Sangweni on a permanent basis.

According to Soccer Laduma, Chippa have not hidden their admiration for the midfielder and now the Port-Elizabeth side hopes to secure his services.

“Chippa United are interested in keeping Thami Sangweni at the club on a permanent deal. The player is back to his best and enjoying his football again, thanks to Chippa United,” revealed an unnamed source.

"He is one of the players that were with Bafana Bafana at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, which is proof that he has been performing well.

“The club has started the negotiations with Sundowns about that.”

Sangweni lead Bafana Bafana to victory against Ivory Coast to claim the Nelson Mandela Challenge.

Shakes Mashaba elected the 25-year-old in South Africa’s AFCON squad but Chilli Boys midfielder warmed the bench in Equatorial Guinea.

Meanwhile, Sangweni will prepare with the rest of his Chippa teammates for the Nedbank Cup as they host Natal United on Saturday, February 21.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
