SSU targets Thika striker

Cape Town - Thika United striker, Michael Olunga, is hoping to make the grade at South African PSL club SuperSport United.

The 20-year-old, who is highly rated back in Kenya, has spent the last week on trial at SuperSport and says he has done well so far.

"I'm really working hard and the head-coach, Gordon Igesund, is impressed with my ability but says I have to improve my fitness level,” Olunga was reported as saying by the SuperSport website.

“I scored a brace in a friendly (against Sundowns) on Wednesday and I’m happy with that," Olunga has already been on trial at the Pretoria club, six months ago, but is optimistic that this time he may be asked to stay.

"This time I’m settled and getting along well with everyone in the team. I’d say the first visit was like a reconnaissance of sorts and it really helped," he said.

"Igesund has been very supportive and hopefully by Sunday I will know my fate, if the club is signing me or I’ll head back to Kenya to join a new team," he added.

Olunga was on loan to Thika United in 2014 and is owned by Liberty Academy.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
