Johannesburg - The national public broadcaster, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) have announced a new agreement between the two parties.
It was announced on Monday at SABC’s Radio Park Building in Johannesburg that the SABC will have the radio rights to all major announcements involving the PSL. The agreement was signed at the SABC Boardroom where PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza, SABC acting CEO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, and vice chairman of the SABC Board of Directors, Thami ka Plaatjie, were present.
"The agreement we make today is turning events around where all major announcements by the PSL will be done by SABC. We will invite all journalists to come here and hear whatever is happening first hand.
“We want to bring back our audience who we may have lost through reasons that many of us may be aware of. So this is a major understanding between us and PSL. Whether they are announcing the movement of players or any major event or announcement in the PSL, it will be done by SABC," ka Plaatjie said.
The acting CEO, Motsoeneng, added that they will be fighting for the TV rights in the near future. "We want to give our viewers out there the chance to get everything concerning football first hand,” he said.
