Celtic and Roses have close ties, but for this clash their
friendly relationship will be put aside as they compete to progress into the
next round of South Africa’s most prestigious cup competition.
Phunya Sele Sele reached the quarterfinals of last year’s
Nedbank Cup before falling to eventual runners-up Bidvest Wits, and they will
be looking for another strong showing in 2015.
Roses, meanwhile, are appearing in the Nedbank Cup last 32
for the second time. Their debut arrived in 2012 when they defeated Polokwane
City 2-0 before losing 1-0 to Santos in the last 16.
They compete in the Free State ABC Motsepe League and have
performed strongly this season, having also spent two years in the National
First Division from 2012 to 2014.
United defeated, North West Shining Stars, in the
preliminary round to earn the match against ‘big brothers’Celtic.
Phunya Sele Sele have demonstrated some fine form since the
resumption of the PSL earlier this month, first holding runaway league leaders
Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw, before thumping AmaZulu 3-0 last weekend.
