Rodgers has found his stride

Cape Town - Allan Freese says Eleazar Rodgers has gelled perfectly into his Platinum Stars team after scoring his second goal for the side in the 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Rodgers was Dikwena’s hero at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, scoring in the 50th minute to send the defending Telkom Knockout champions to another final – and in the process eliminating his former team.

It was the striker’s second goal for his new club after he converted a penalty against Kaizer Chiefs during the quarterfinals.

“When a new player comes along you must allow him to settle, find his rhythm and feel at home,” Freese tells KickOff.com website.

“This is what we did with Rodgers. No pressure was put on him and you can see that he is enjoying himself. He is a very dangerous and experienced striker and this is why we signed him.

“His goal against Sundowns came at the right time for us. He has now found his stride and he will get better and better as he continues to play.”

Freese adds: “You could see that he fitted well into the system and this is the reason why he was able to anticipate the pass by making a run before the ball was played in his direction.”

Prior to his move to Stars, Rodgers played for Santos where he scored 31 goals in 145 appearances before moving to Sundowns. He scored twice for the Brazilians in 15 appearances before he was loaned to Ajax Cape Town.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
