Cape Town - The Magic FC were unable to cause Platinum Stars any real problems as the Premiership side easily brushed them aside 3-0 at The Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday.

Two goals from Eleazar Rodgers and a Vincent Khumalo penalty were enough to see the Rustenburg-based side safely through to the round of 16.

Dikwena did not take long to seize the advantage and took the lead in the second minute through a fine looping header by Rodgers from a long throw.

Platinum Stars dominated possession for the rest of the first-half but The Magic's defense impressively held firm.

Conditions in Rustenburg were hot and it began to take its toll on the players as the game started to lose momentum just before half time.

Dikwena's pressure, and the effect of the heat, culminated in the 42nd minute when a lazy challenge brought Edgar Manaka down in the box.

Khumalo stepped up to convert the penalty to send Dinaledi into the break with a two-goal lead.

Allan Freese's side began the second half in much the same way as they first, securing possession and starving The Magic FC of the ball.

The Cape side began to come back into the game 10 minutes into the second half as Platinum Stars looked to protect their lead and save energy in the scorching heat.

The resurgence was cut short, however, when Rodgers headed his second goal of the game home in the 66th minute to effectively end the tie as a contest.

The third goal knocked the wind out of The Magic FC and they showed little evidence to suggest they might impact the score sheet for the rest of the game.
