Rampant Chiefs thrash FS Stars

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs were in a rampant mood when they thrashed Free State Stars 4-0 in a PSL encounter at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

The hosts were quick out the starting blocks, with Bernard Parker launching a low thunderbolt that just went inches wide.

The visitors had to hold on tight as Amakhosi's attacks were coming in waves, but Johnny Mathole was there to deny Bernard Parker, and minutes later Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

Sthembiso Ngcobo had a juicy chance to grab the opener in a one-on-one situation with Itumeleng Khune just after the 20th minute, but the Chiefs shot-stopper came out on top with a gorgeous save.

The hosts continued to dominate and finally got the opener in the 35th minute, Robert Sankara turning a Siboniso Gaxa cross into his own net to give Chiefs the 1-0 advantage.

George Lebese extended their lead in the 43rd minute with a clinical finish to slot it home and make it 2-0 just before the break. There was still time for one more though, as Liberty Chakoroma also turned a Gaxa cross into his own net.

The teams headed into the break with Kaizer Chiefs leading 3-0.

Ea Lla Koto almost reduced the deficit moments after the restart after a free-kick effort from Mohomi.

Stars were enjoying a better second half, but Siphiwe Tshabalala rocked up in the 66th minute to add his name to the score-sheet with a neat effort, making it 4-0.

The skipper almost doubled his tally ten minutes later but Mathole was alert.

Steve Komphela's men continued to string together some nice passing moves but Stars held on and no more goals could be added.
