Quarterly prize money in PSL

Johannesburg - The Premier Soccer League have revealed the new season will be split up into four-quarters, with the league leaders at each stage set to earn R1.5 million.

Speaking at a media briefing this weekend PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza confirmed the quarterly prize money structure, and claims the new lay-out will ensure an even more competitive campaign.

"The Absa Premiership will from this season be divided into four quarters. Quarter one will have eight fixtures, quarter two seven, quarter three eight and quarter four seven," Khoza said.

Orlando Pirates have now twice clinched the PSL crown on the final day of the season, edging Ajax Cape Town on goal difference in the 2010/11 campaign before finishing just two points ahead of Moroka Swallows last term.

The eventually winner of this season's PSL will also be rewarded with a R10 million prize, making this term one of the most lucrative in the country's history.
