Cape Town - Virgil Vries will continue as captain when top-eight chasing Maritzburg United host Nedbank Cup finalist Ajax Cape Town in their Premiership encounter at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday.

The Namibian goalkeeper has been standing in for injured skipper Ashley Hartog, who is only expected back by the end of April after sustaining a knee injury just over two months back.

"He's been on rehab and is now in the medics room," coach Steve Komphela said of Hartog. "This game might be too soon, but I'm sure we'll see him playing again before the end of the season."

The Team of Choice are currently eighth in a clustered mid-table battle and will be desperate for a win that would edge them closer towards a top-half finish for the first time.

"As everybody knows, our ambition is to get into the top eight," Komphela added. "For the players, the ambition and motivation is to be a generation that makes history.

"And that is the generation that took Maritzburg into the top eight for the first time. It is possible, the players know it and that is still the objective."

Ajax, meanwhile, will arrive in Pietermaritzburg in sixth place, but still in celebratory mood having booked their place in the Nedbank Cup final with a 2-1 win over SuperSport United on Saturday.

The Urban Warriors do have a strong advantage over their opponents having won three out of their last six meetings with only one defeat in those games.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
