Preview: Chippa v Black Aces

Cape Town - Chippa United could climb as high as second in the Premiership standings when they take on Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday.

The Chilli Boys have proved one of the surprise packages this season and currently sit in a two-way tie for third, below Bidvest Wits only on goal difference after winning six, drawing two and losing four of their opening 12 league fixtures.

The Port Elizabeth outfit are also only one point adrift of second-placed Ajax Cape Town, who travel to Moroka Swallows in a simultaneous kick-off, meaning they could finish the day in the runners-up position with almost half the campaign having been played.

Black Aces, meanwhile, have proved largely inconsistent this term, winning four, drawing four and losing four to sit outside of the top eight, albeit only on goal difference.

The Mpumalanga side have, however, failed to win any of their last three league outings, drawing against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of November before suffering back-to-back 2-1 defeats, against Polokwane City and then Wits.

In team news, Chippa are suspension free for this week's clash, but Mpho Mvelase and William Twala will need to tread carefully as they both enter the game with three yellow cards to their name.

Aces, meanwhile, are in the same boat in terms of suspensions, but have three players walking the yellow-card tightrope, namely Edwin Gyimah, Siboniso Gumede and Lehlohonolo Nonyane.
