Polokwane eye Chiefs scalp

Polokwane - Following their first victory of the season against Ajax Cape Town two weeks ago, Polokwane City will be motivated to keep their winning momentum heading into their Telkom Knockout opener against Kaizer Chiefs at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The newly-promoted side had a torrid start to top flight football, suffering five consecutive league defeats, which led to the sacking of head coach Duncan Lechesa.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi are coming off a 1-all draw against perennial rivals, Orlando Pirates, in the MTN8 semi-final second leg which saw them being eliminated from the competition after losing 1-0 in the first leg.

"There is no turning back after the victory over Ajax.

"That win has lifted the spirits in the camp.

"We want to build on that success going forward,” City’s media officer Patrick Baloyi told the SowetanLIVE website.

"The game against Chiefs will be a tough one, especially after they were defeated by Orlando Pirates in their last match last Tuesday."

"We have been training hard and looking forward to getting another win," he added.

The Glamour Boys will be looking to bounce back from their poor start to the season.

Kick-off is scheduled for 20:15.
