Polokwane City dim Stars

Polokwane - Cole Alexander has struck late as Polokwane City claimed a superb 2-1 Absa Premiership victory over Platinum Stars at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

The win compounded the misery for Dikwena, who find themselves in the relegation play-off position, albeit with two games in hand.

But for City it is now 13 points from the last 15 available which has seen them sprint up the table and towards the top eight.

The win came courtesy of goals from Maxwell Molala and Alexander, while Stars’ reply was a first ever PSL strike for forward Rhulani Manzini.

After a lively start it took until the 28th minute for City to open the scoring as Molala netted after being set up by Jabu Maluleke.

The home side made a double0change at the break, introducing Sipho Jembula and Rendani Ndou, who would play a crucial role in the winner.

Stars found their equaliser eight minutes after the break when Tintswalo Tshabalala’s corner was met by Manzini, who headed into the goal.

It looked as though both sides would have to settle for a point as chances went begging, but Alexander grabbed the winner as he profited from a fine pass from Ndou on 81 minutes.

Next up for City is a home game against Chippa United on Saturday, a meeting between coach Kosta Papic and the side he left earlier in the campaign.

Stars have another away day, this time at unpredictable Moroka Swallows.
