Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane declared himself 'very happy' after seeing side clinch a 3-1 victory over Platinum Stars in the Nedbank Cup.

Goals from Mzikayise Mashaba, Khama Billiat and Hlompho Kekana secured a comfortable win against Dikwena, securing Downs' passage to the quarter-finals of the cup competition.

The win also ended Bafana Bastyle's recent poor cup record against Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, much to the pleasure of Mosimane.

"We scored three beautiful goals, it was a good effort from the boys and I am very happy," he was quoted as saying by KickOff.

"It was tough out there but we worked hard. We have defied the myth and belief that we struggle when playing against Platinum Stars in a cup tournament.

"We came to their home ground and won. We went into the river and tamed the crocodile, our passing dismantled their defence and I am happy with the result."

Downs will now have just under two weeks to prepare for their next encounter, a CAF Champions League second-leg tie against TP Mazembe, due to the international break.

A late Khama Billiat goal sealed the win at Loftus Versfeld, putting Mosimane's men in the driving seat ahead of the return leg at Stade du TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.
