Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns closed the gap behind South African Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs to three points with a 3-1 win at Platinum Stars Tuesday.
Surprise Moriri put the visitors ahead midway through the opening half and Liberian Anthony Laffor added a second goal soon after half-time.
Cheeseboy Mokoena put the outcome beyond doubt with a third goal for the Pretoria club 12 minutes from time before Malawian Robert Ng'ambi pulled one back.
A two-goal victory for Sundowns over Pretoria University this weekend will lift them to the top of the table on goal difference ahead of an April 5 Soweto showdown against Chiefs.
The league leaders have a South African Cup date Wednesday before trying to overcome a 3-0 CAF Champions League loss when they host DR Congo club Vita three days later.
Sundowns traditionally struggle against Platinum, who dropped one place to eighth, and coach Pitso Mosimane hailed the triumph at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in north-west mining town Rustenburg.
"I have rarely prepared so thoroughly for a match and it paid off. We were spot on tactically," boasted the former South Africa striker and coach.
"It was so important to win this game and it proved one of my best in charge of Sundowns."
