Pirates to endure Celtic surge

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates will look to record a home victory in the Absa Premiership when they host Bloemfontein Celtic at Orlando Stadium.

Pirates’ extended their unbeaten run to three matches with a 1-1 draw away to Moroka Swallows in midweek.

The Soweto side has claimed 11 points from eight home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are AmaZulu (away), Polokwane City (home) and Free State Stars (away).

The Buccaneers are placed fifth on the Absa Premiership log with 23 points from 16 matches.

Celtic ended a winless run at four games when they defeated Black Aces 2-0 away in midweek.

The Bloemfontein club has claimed 11 points from nine away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and Platinum Stars (all home).

Phunya Sele Sele are placed 10th on the Absa Premiership log with 20 points from 16 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Pirates and Celtic have met in 53 league matches since 1985.

The Buccaneers have 27 wins compared to 12 for Phunya Sele Sele, while 14 matches have been drawn.

Pirates have won 17 of their 26 home matches against Celtic, suffering three defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, they played to a thrilling 2-2 draw in Bloemfontein.

Kick-off is at 20:15 on Saturday, December 20.
