Pirates sign Meyiwa replacement

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates have announced the signings of Tshepo Gumede and Siyabonga Mpontshane from Platinum Stars.

According to the club's website, the duo join the Mighty Buccaneers as winger Tlou Segolela moves to Dikwena on a permanent deal and defender Gladwin Shitolo on loan deal until the end of the season.

Pirates have been looking to fill the void left by Senzo Meyiwa following his tragic death in October last year.

Mpontshane has been on the Buccaneers’ radar ever since with the likes of Itumeleng Khune and Ronwen Williams also being touted to make the move.

Bucs must be relieved to have landed Gumede, after it was revealed that SuperSport United have also been chasing the 23-year-olds signature. In due time the young defender will replace one of Pirates’ aging centre backs.
