Johannesburg – An Orlando Pirates player and five others were arrested in Mbombela after they were allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.

Captain Leonard Hlathi said the soccer player, along with three men and two women, was arrested by the Mbombela flying squad in a stop-and-search operation on Wednesday morning.

Police searched the boot of the player's white BMW 5-series and reportedly found a firearm and 13 rounds.

The six would appear in Mbombela Magistrate's Court within the next 24 to 48 hours.
