Pirates fined R150 000

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates have been fined R150 000 by the Premier Soccer League (PSL), on the eve of the Nedbank Cup final, after a hearing with the league's disciplinary committee (DC).

The Premiership champions, in line for their third title of the season after winning the MTN8 Cup, pleaded guilty after fans invaded the pitch at the end of their final league match of the season against Golden Arrows at the weekend.

"Pirates are fined R150 000, of which R50 000 is payable immediately," the PSL DC said in a statement on Thursday.

"The balance of R100 000 is suspended for 12 months on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offence."

Pirates had been fined for a similar offence in February, which was suspended for 12 months on the same condition, the PSL said.

"Three months later, they were found guilty again, which therefore rendered that suspended R50 000 effective immediately." Pirates face Black Leopards in the Nedbank Cup final in Nelspruit on Sunday.
