Pirates are 'the underdogs'

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates will head into this weekend's Soweto derby as "the underdogs", according to public relations officer Mickey Modisane.

The Buccaneers travel to the FNB Stadium on Saturday to face Kaizer Chiefs in one of Africa's biggest club match-ups, although Pirates head into the must-win encounter on the back of a 3-0 defeat at struggling Santos.

Bucs also start the match behind Amakhosi on the standings, and while it is only goal difference that separates the sides, Chiefs also have the comfort of a game in hand over their bitter rivals.

"This is one of the top derbies in the world. It is a definite 'must see' for all those who follow the 'Beautiful Game' in this country," he said on the club's official website.

"We come into this match reeling from our 3-0 defeat to Santos in midweek, so it is fair to say that we will be regarded the underdogs.

"Kaizer Chiefs are currently in second place, with a game in hand so its only proper that they carry the 'favourites' tag on Saturday afternoon."

However, the Bucs' PRO believes when it comes to the Soweto derby, form usually has little to do with the outcome of the encounter.

"Fortunately for us Bhakaniyas, usually this has no bearing on the outcome of the match because the moment the referee blows his whistle to kick off proceedings, it will be up to those twenty-two brave soldiers to fight for the three points on offer," he added.

"I anticipate an exciting game on Saturday; we already guaranteed a full house."
