Cape Town - Free State Stars coach Kinnah Phiri expects his players to produce another competent performance when they compete against against the mighty Mamelodi Sundowns at the Charles Mopeli Stadium.

Stars have by no means been prolific since the season resumed last month but they are collecting points against formidable opponents.

Perhaps the highlight of their recent achievements was the 1-1 draw recorded against Orlando Pirates earlier this week and Phiri is now more confident than ever that his players can upset the applecart against Bafana Ba Style.

"This match (against Pirates) was good preparation for the Sundowns game and the boys are becoming solidified," said Phiri, who has somehow managed to revive Ea Lla Koto’s campaign after treading dangerously in the dreaded relegation zone.

"Their mental capacity is getting stronger and stronger," added Phiri.

Sundowns, who still harbour aspirations of catching Kaizer Chiefs before this season ends, were wounded earlier this week, when they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Bidvest Wits in Johannesburg. Phiri wants to try and exploit the possibility that Sundowns’ confidence has taken a hit this week.

He added: "Looking at the game over the weekend, I think we'll put up another battle and give them a very tough time."

Match is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 with a 20:15 kick-off.
