Phiri, now in his fourth spell in charge, took over the reins from Tom Saintfiet at the beginning of the international break.
The Malawian tactician faced a trip to Wits during his last tenure as boss, coming away with a 3-1 win on that occasion.
And he is now hoping for a repeat performance and is confident that Stars are ready for the challenge.
"We are obviously going there for a win. Whatever happens, we are going to fight for a win," he told the club's official website.
"We have been working very hard to ensure that we go there for
that win. Our preparation has been very good. We have been very busy
trying to build up for the game this weekend against Wits.
"We haven’t played a friendly match because as you know there
have been some changes with the coaching staff and so there were several
other aspects that we needed to work on during the past week.
"We are playing away and we have got several games to go. We
cannot say that if we draw it is a bad result because it can also be a
good result.
"We are not playing against a team that is small. They are a big
club and they have also been very good campaigners this season."
