Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Lentshane Phalane praised the tactics implemented by his coach Clinton Larsen, following their 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates.
The Zebediela born attacker helped Phunya Sele Sele coup all three points as the Buccaneers registered their second ABSA Premiership defeat of the season at the Free State Stadium.
Larsen took a gamble by making an unexpected nine changes in his team starting line-up, which paid off on the night as the Celtic caused an upset over the Ghost.
Phalane, 25, believes that his team-mates made history in the top flight football as they used their reserve team squad in a competitive fixture against the giants of South African football and still manage to get the results.
“It was a tough game for us and we knew that they will come at us.” Phalane said.
“But the coach told us that he is going to use a new team against Pirates then he said we must go out there and have fun.
“And if we lose people will talk about our gamble and if we win it will go down as a history and we made history indeed.
“So credit must go to the coach for his tactics and the rest of the team for their hard work and determinations.
“He also told me personally before the game that he is going to rest some of the key players and he will give me a chance.
“It was tough out there but he said that go and do what you are capable of out there.
“And I certainly did my best on the day and I played so well in the end, and happy with a win.”
Celtic will switch their focus back to the MTN8 semi-final second leg clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, August 29.
Kick-off is at 20:15.
