Cape Town - SuperSport United winger Thuso Phala played down his Telkom
Knockout title-winning goal on Saturday, claiming it was "all about
luck".
A pulsating encounter at the Orlando Stadium saw the 90 minutes finish with the scores level at 1-1 after Matsatsantsa captain Clayton Daniels' penalty cancelled out Robert Ng’ambi's opener.
Extra-time then proved thrill-a-minute stuff as Daniels put United ahead, again from the spot, before Mogakolodi Ngele drew the teams level once more.
Dinaledi were then gifted the chance to take the lead in the final few minutes after winning a spot-kick of their own for a handball, but Eleazar Rodgers saw his penalty denied by Ronwen Williams, who followed up that save by keeping out the striker's rebound with his foot.
The drama was by no means over either, as Phala picked up the ball out wide before dribbling past two men and curling a stunning shot past the keeper and into the back of the net with the outside of his boot, but the forward played down his heroics by claiming he was merely in the right place at the right time.
"In the box you must take the chance, I took the chance against two defenders, it rolled for me, I just looked down and took the shot, and lucky enough it went in," said Phala.
"It's all about luck. In the box if you try your luck sometimes it falls for you, sometimes it hits a defender and goes out for a corner. So lucky enough for me, it fell for me."
