Phala: I have to perform

Cape Town - Newly-appointed SuperSport United captain Thuso Phala says he is up to the task of leading the club towards its target of claiming silverware.

The club's Player of the Season for the 2014/15 season has replaced Clayton Daniels as skipper and has also been handed a lucrative four-year contract extension.

Phala was instrumental last season for Matsatsantsa - scoring eight goals and bagging the winning goal in the Telkom Knockout final against Platinum Stars.

"Obviously, all those things motivate me because the team is showing much confidence in me, but it also comes with pressure," Phala told KickOff.

"Now I have to perform. I have to be up there with the high performers throughout the season. I must work hard to be a consistent player throughout the season.

"But there is pressure in football and you always have to perform at the highest level. A lot is expected from me, but in football you have to perform under pressure to be a good player."
