Parker out for four months

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs could begin the new season without Bernard Parker, who underwent surgery on his troublesome ankle injury.

According to the football411 website, the AmaKhosi marksman was withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad that recently toured Australia and has since gone under the knife in a bid to help speed up his recovery.

Chiefs made the announcement on their official Twitter profile, where they confirmed that last season's top goal-scorer will be in a boot for at least six weeks.

The 28-year-old will then begin rehabilitation and is expected to sit out up to four months, which could force the Soweto giants to consider a potential replacement during the transfer period.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
