Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs are leading the Absa Premiership table with only four rounds of league action left in the current 2012/13 campaign, and are the odds-on favourites to clinch the league title.
According to the Soccer-Laduma website, Bernard Parker has been a key figure in coach Stuart Baxter’s system this season and has scored some vital goals in the side’s dominance at the top of the PSL. Having netted 12 goals for the team this season, the South African international is leading the goal scoring charts.
The 27-year-old scored a brace for the Amakhosi on the weekend - see full match report here - in the team’s 3-1 win over Moroka Swallows as Baxter and his team took one step closer to claiming the league crown.
Despite being the league’s top goal scorer, Parker is not taking any of the credit for the side’s success. He says that they play as a team and wants to contribute to their success, whether it being by scoring or setting his teammates up.
“What is important is for Chiefs to win games and fight for the league title. It is not about me scoring. It is about the team winning. We play together as a team and no matter who scores we celebrate together if we win.
“That's the most important thing in the team. We will continue fighting until we win the league title. It won't be easy but as a team we will manage together,” the Bafana Bafana man said.
Chiefs’ next outing is against Platinum Stars, who are sat second on the PSL table, six points adrift the log leaders. The two sides will lock horns at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, April 28.
