Cape Town - Polokwane City coach, Kosta Papic, has told Sport24 that Katlego ‘Killer’ Mphela is only training with his side and not on trial but he is open to signing the striker.
Mphela was one of the big names released by Kaizer Chiefs last month and at 30-years-of-age he is looking for a team where he has a good chance of game time.
Papic has denied that Mphela is on trial at Rise and Shine, saying that he is merely giving him a chance to get fit.
“No he’s not on trial,” Papic said.
“I just wanted to give him the chance to feel the game, to feel the players, so that he can come back in scoring shape like he has done before.
“I want to give him a chance to be fit – that is all, nothing else.”
Papic did, however, suggest that he would be happy to sign Mphela if the striker was both interested in the move and willing to work hard to regain his match sharpness.
“We are going talk on Tuesday and after that I will see how much he is ready to come to us.
“He is not any kind of signing, he just needed time (on the pitch) and I want to see how he is adapting to the style of football.
“From my side there is no doubt about that but we must see what is his side.
“Is he ready to fight? Is he ready to score? Is he ready to play football? If it is the case then the door is always open,” Papic concluded.
