Palmer takes Maritzburg job

Johannesburg - Ian Palmer has signed a 15-month contract to succeed Ernest Middendorp as head coach of Maritzburg United.

The outspoken German parted company with the KwaZulu-based outfit on the weekend for his outbursts in the media and he has been replaced by Palmer.

In a club statement, the Team of Choice's chairperson, Farook Kadodia, revealed: 'Having worked with Ian before and with him being available immediately, the directors of Maritzburg United Football Club believe that he is the best person to take the club forward.'

'He has high energy levels as a coach and will get his players to go out onto the field and fight for him.'

Palmer first assignment is the midweek Premiership clash against Platinum Stars.
