Paintsil relishing derby debut

Cape Town - Maritzburg United have lost some impetus lately and will want to restore pride when they play AmaZulu in the Usuthu derby on Friday, according to Ghana international John Paintsil.

The Team of Choice will be out to improve their prospects of qualifying for the CAF Champions League at the end of the Premiership season, having seen their blistering start to the campaign dwindle of late following just three wins from their last 10 outings.

Meanwhile, their nemeses AmaZulu will be desperate for all three points as they look to hoist themselves out of the relegation zone in what is expected to be nothing short of an epic encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday.

And Paintsil, who has been instrumental in the Team of Choice's quest for continental cup football next term, has embraced the challenge of beating AmaZulu in the KwaZulu-Natal derby this weekend.

"The team started very well during the first 10 league games, but we have lost a few games, which is normal in football. Our aim of qualifying for the Champions League is still on and we want to make amends by beating AmaZulu on Friday," Paintsil told Football411's Ghana correspondent Russel Wiafe.

"It is always difficult to play against a team that is in the relegation zone, they will give their all because they know their position is not all that good. That makes this game very difficult for us, but we will rise to the occasion come Friday.

"The good news for me personally is that this is going to be my first derby game against AmaZulu and I really want to be part of it.

"I have heard a lot about the derby and I personally feel that am ready for the game, and we still have a few days to go but I think I am mentally and physically prepared for the derby."
