PSL sides after Shongwe's signature

Black Leopards striker Myron Shongwe finds himself the centre of attraction to five Absa Premiership clubs who are all jostling each other for his attention after his club Black Leopards were relegated to the First Division when they crashed 2-1 on aggregate to Bay United over two promotional playoff matches.

Bloemfontein Celtic, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly all vying for Shongwe’s attention with AmaZulu reported to have tabled a massive R2.5-million offer in an attempt to lure the free-scoring Soweto-born striker to the coastal city.

And as Leopards managing firector David Thidiela publicly announced that none of his players will go cheap despite being relegated to the lower division, Celtic CEO Ikie Augousti reportedly also tabled an offer to Leopards that cannot be sniffed at, indicating how highly the player is rated on the local scene.

But even as the clubs outbid each other, Kaizer Chiefs are watching the situation with keen interest while Mamelodi Sundowns' interest in the player seems to have waned after they learned that the player and his club mate, Jabulani Maluleke, look destined to join Pirates.

And contrary to reports that the son of former Pirates great Ronnie “Gandrix” Shongwe has signed a pre-contract with Pirates, the truth is that there is no way that Myron could have signed a pre-contract with any team due to the fact that he extended his contract by an additional two years with Leopards only a year ago.

As a result, Myron Shongwe’s contract with Leopards still has another season to run before it expires and he could not have signed a pre-contract with the Buccaneers under the circumstances. But reports indicate that Thidiela and Dr Irvin Khoza are negotiating for the duo to relocate to Mayfair.

The question is, can Pirates offer Leopards more than what Celtic and AmaZulu have already tabled for Shongwe?
