PSL release Soweto Derby dates

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League released the full 2015/16 Absa Premiership fixtures on Thursday.

The opening round of fixtures will be played between Saturday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 11 as Kaizer Chiefs look to defend their PSL title.

The PSL also confirmed that the last two rounds of fixtures of the season will kick-off simultaneously.

The 2015/16 season will end on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

The fixtures that many soccer loving fans and neutrals will have circled as "games not to be missed" are the Soweto Derbies.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will face one another at the FNB Stadium for the first of two league fixtures on Saturday, October 31. The match will kick-off at 15:30.

The encounter is scheduled to be played almost one-year to the day that Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa tragically passed away after being shot in a home intrusion.

The "second leg" of the Soweto Derby will be played on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the same venue with the kick-off also set for 15:30.

The opening weekend of the 2015/16 season will see Free State Stars host Mpumalanga Black Aces at Goble Park Stadium while Bloemfontein Celtic will travel to face Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Later on the same day, Bidvest Wits will host Ajax Cape Town at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg and Platinum Stars play last season’s runner-ups, Mamelodi Sundowns, at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Defending champions, Chiefs, will kick-off their campaign on Sunday, August 9 against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Stadium - the same venue where they lifted last season's trophy on the final day of action, while newly-promoted club, Golden Arrows will play University of Pretoria at the Chatsworth Stadium.

Both fixtures will kick-off at 15:00.

Monday, August 10 sees Maritzburg United take on Jomo Cosmos at 17:00. Mandla Ncikazi will get a first taste of mentoring a team in top flight football whilst Jomo Sono will hope to start off brightly following their promotion from the NFD.

Pirates only get to play on Tuesday, August 11 due to a fixture clash. The Sea Robbers are set to partake in a CAF Confederation Cup match on the same weekend that the PSL kicks off.

Eric Tinkler will look to rally his squad as they tackle SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
