PE fans have Chippa buzzing

Port Elizabeth - Following their first game at their new home against Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United have praised the spectators from Port Elizabeth for the massive and passionate support they have shown the club last weekend.

Unfortunately, the Chilli Boys suffered a 4-2 defeat to the Phefeni Glamour Boys in a thrilling pre-season encounter played at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors found the back of the net through George Maluleka, Simphiwe Tshabalala, Tefu Mashemaite and Kingston Nkatha.

Siyabonga Zulu and captain Andile Mbenyane were on target for the home side on the day.

Speaking exclusively to Sport24 on Monday, Chippa's CEO Peter Patrolis said he believes that the home supporters will play a crucial role in guiding the team to PSL survival in the forthcoming season.

"PE is a good and beautiful windy city," Patrolis told Sport24.

"The atmosphere is good here.

"Fans are fantastic as you saw yesterday.

"They played a good role as the 12th player.

"You could see their passion for football.

"Our arrival here in PE was a good thing, not only for us as a team but for them as well.

"Being without a team in the city must have been hard for them.

"At least now they will get a chance to enjoy PSL football.

"Because we will bring all our home matches here.

"And I believe their support will also motivate our players to perform better this coming season.

Chippa will open their 2014/15 league campaign at the Nelson Mandela Bay tadium against Platinum Stars on 8 August.
