Over 1.3m votes for Khune

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has received the most fan votes for the upcoming pre-season Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

The match, dubbed the Carling Black Label Cup in which fans select the teams, is scheduled for July 27 at FNB Stadium.

According to the SowetanLIVE website, the Bafana skipper has received over 1.3 million votes which puts him in the starting line-up for Chiefs.

In the Chiefs line-up Khune is followed by striker Bernard Parker with 351 192 votes, with Lehlohonolo Majoro third on 350 666, while Winger Siphiwe Tshabalala (327 298) and midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane (299 337) are fourth and fifth respectively.

Defender Eric Mathoho has amassed 240 827 votes, Siboniso Gaxa 229 557, George Lebese 210 820, Tsepo Masilela 210 639, Sthembiso Ngcobo 170 030, Tefu Mashamaite 181 968, Willard Katsande 148 770 and Siyabonga Nkosi 125 942.

Pirates 'keeper Senzo Meyiwa tops their chart with 475 207 votes, with outgoing deputy Moeneeb Josephs on 379 816.

Of the defenders, Happy Jele has received 156 112 votes, Thabo Matlaba 138 258, Siyabonga Sangweni 188 354, Lucky Lekgwathi 134 689 and Rooi Mahamutsa 95 354.

In midfield, Oupa Manyisa is sitting on 139 502 votes, Andile Jali on 136 074, Tlou Segolela has 117 848, Sifiso Myeni 108 801 and Daine Klate 103 269.

Up front Collins Mbesuma (170 616) leads, with Takesure Chinyama (127 342) and Ndumiso Mabena (98 244) behind him.

The game is expected to be a sold-out affair, with more than 62 984 tickets already bought by Wednesday. So far more than 11 million player votes have been cast.

A record 81 200 supporters watched the unique match last year.

Pirates have won the last two editions, but Chiefs will be eager to turn the tables after their successful PSL-Nedbank Cup double last season.
