Cape Town - The
expected mad scramble for the services of Ajax Cape Town playmaker
Keagan Dolly has not materialized according to the club's coach Roger de
Sa.
Dolly, named the PSL’s Young Player of the Year for last season after an outstanding showing in a struggling Ajax side, has been the subject of enquiries from all three of the so-called big Gauteng clubs.
De Sa confirms that Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns all asked over the availability of the player, who it is believed will be allowed to leave for the right price, but since then have not moved to acquire his services.
“It’s all a bit strange, we heard from them early on but then nothing for the last few weeks,” De Sa tells supersport.com. “It’s unusual because the Big Three usually move quickly to get a player they want, but for some reason they are all now holding back.
“Maybe it is the World Cup, or they are waiting to see what happens elsewhere, but as far as we are concerned Keagan will be with us next season and we are planning accordingly.”
Dolly, who publicly expressed a desire to join Chiefs if he is to leave for another PSL club, is also holding out to see what may transpire with Ajax Amsterdam.
It is thought he does not favour a return to Sundowns, where the midfield options of coach Pitso Mosimane are vast.
The 21-year-old was previously with the Brazilians’ junior set-up before joining Ajax’s development.
Dolly, from the same Westbury suburb in Johannesburg as Steven Pienaar, was called into the Bafana Bafana squad by Gordon Igesund last year, but did not play.
