No bail for PSL player

Durban - AmaZulu goalkeeper Mandlakayise Sangweni appeared in the Ngwelezane Magistrate's Court in KwaZulu-Natal for allegedly shooting and wounding his uncle, The Star reported on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old's bail application was postponed on Monday and he would be back in court on Thursday.

His lawyer Vusumuzi Ndlovu told the court on Monday that prosecutor Nkosisapha Mbatha had objected to Sangweni's bail application because the investigating officer was not present, the newspaper reported.

Sangweni allegedly shot his uncle Vusumuzi Sangweni at his homestead in Kwambonambi, on KwaZulu-Natal's north coast, apparently after an argument about witchcraft on Friday. The uncle was in a critical condition in a local hospital.

Sangweni is the brother of Orlando Pirates and Bafana defender Siyabonga Sangweni, 31. His younger brother Thamsanqa, 24, plays for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sangweni's bail application would be heard in the Kwambonambi Magistrate's Court on January 2.
