Nkosi should have played

Cape Town - SAFA match commissioner Kader de Goede confirms that Siyabonga Nkosi should have played despite having long nails.

According to KickOff, Nkosi was denied the opportunity to come on for Kaizer Chiefs against Bidvest Wits after an official ruled out Nkosi’s chance because he had long nails.

“There is no rule that says anything about long nails,” De Goede states.

“The rulebook specifies jewellery as well as things like undergarments.

“I mean, how do you ascertain that nails are long? If I was a match official I would have definitely allowed the player to come on.”

De Goede further states that the refusal to let the player on the field of play made no sense and that the reasoning seemed very soft. "The issue of long nails has got nothing to do with common sense. I think in this case the match official overused his powers by denying a player a chance to play because of long nails.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
