Niang: My worst season yet

Cape Town - Mame Niang said he will come back stronger at Mamelodi Sundowns after going through what he described as the worst season in his 10 year career.

Despite winning the Nedbank Cup this season, Niang endured a difficult first season at ‘Downs after moving from SuperSport United last year, scored a single goal in a mere five appearances.

The 31 year-old believes the competition for places in the team’s striking department made it harder to get a regular playing spot.

“This was my worst season in my 10 years playing professional football,” Niang told KickOff.

“I have never scored a single goal all season since I started playing football so this is why I am saying this ranks as my worst. I started five games, scored once, had one assist and won one man of the match.

“This past season just didn’t go well for me because I didn’t play as much as I would have wanted to.”
